Commissions, Dragonball, and general nerdiness

Sun Jul 26, 2009, 5:37 AM
For you TL;DR-ers out there, free art opportunity at the bottom of this journal. (look for the stars***)

Well, that phishing thing has been up since february, time to put something else up, I'm terrible at updating my journal!

A reminder to all that I do accept commissions, I've gotten some notes in the past asking for commissions, but no payments or further discussion on those it seems. To those of you who have asked me about commissions in the past, note me again. You will still be able to get the rate you were originally quoted. All prices are as follows:

Sketch: $2-4 depending upon complexity (generally digital)
Lineart: $5-7 depending upon complexity (digital only)
Flat colors: $8-10 depending upon complexity
Colored and shaded, plain background: $10-12, depending upon complexity
Colored and shaded, full background: $20-25, depending upon complexity

Headshot icons are $5
Additional characters are $4 each

If you'd rather buy me something in exchange for your commission, which is sometimes cheaper... I AM looking to purchase some of the dragonball Z 'orange brick' remastered boxed sets... Currently a lot of fans are chucking them on ebay in a desperate attempt to raise money for the upcoming 'dragonbox' release. I know better than to ask anyone to fork over enough for one of THOSE :P

EDIT: The boxed sets don't have to be new, they just have to work. Lower price ranges on ebay for used boxed sets are around $10!

Anyway, most of you are probably here for the first line in which I said something about free art...

************** TL;DR-ers look here************************

I've recently gotten into DBZ again, and I'm greatly enjoying drawing in this style. Post references of your original DBZ character, and I will draw those which I feel inclined to draw. No guarantees, but as I rarely take requests, you may not get a better opportunity :D

Phishing Scam

Fri Feb 6, 2009, 8:43 PM
by now everyone should have seen the journal warning about the 'check out this funny blog post' phishing scam.

I have also discovered these come in different flavors, there are also 'check out your valentines match' and 'take this fun IQ test', and probably many many more. I'd advise caution when clicking on links posted in random comments.

So everyone be careful~

Nerdfighters FTW!

Fri Sep 26, 2008, 9:12 PM
Today I met John Green, of Vlogbrothers fame. He was touring to promote his new book, Paper Towns. The event started at 7, which was precisely when I got off of work, so we had to rush to get there so I could catch as much as possible. Apparently things started about ten minutes late, so I didn't miss much. I bought a copy of Paper Towns, which isn't supposed to be available until next month, I was pretty thrilled. I also bought a copy of An Abundance of Katherines, since I hadn't read that one yet.

If you do not know who the Vlogbrothers are, here is a brief summary:
On newyears day, 2007, John and Hank Green, two brothers that now live in different states, resolved to give up all forms of textual communication, most other types (except in emergencies), and communicate only via video blogs on youtube. Every weekday for a year, they did videos back and forth.

Must see videos:

Accio Deathly Hallows
[link]
Impatient for the release date of the final book in the Harry Potter series, Hank wrote a song to convey his feelings. This video is responsible for the bulk of their suscribers.

Q&A regarding Deathly Hallows
[link]
In which John helps answer some of the comments left on the Accio Deathly Hallows video, it is quite humourous and explains a bit about nerdfighterdom.

How Nerdfighters Drop Insults
[link]
In which John questions the validity of contemporary insults, such as 'you suck' and 'ur a nerd', and shows off his freshly catalogued home library.

What I like about these guys most, aside from how entertaining their videos are, is that they broadcast a very positive message. Being a nerd is a good thing, it is not only alright to be interested in things other than sports and television, it is AWESOME. Not to say there is anything wrong with television or sports. Being a nerd is only a bad thing if you let it be a bad thing, what it SHOULD mean is that you are able to do awesome things that not everyone else can do, like annagram, or quote obscure literature from the nineteeth century, or program computers. Whatever it is that makes you different also makes you unique, in a great way.
